Submission Guidelines

Welcome authors!

Please read this entire page before submitting a short story.

We are looking for science fiction short stories between 2,000 and 5,000 words. While we will consider longer and shorter stories, your best chance of having a story bought will be to stay within the guidelines.

Stories must be science fiction related. While we love a good fantasy story, this is only a market for science fiction.

We publish short story collections four times per year and buy eight to ten stories for each issue, so submissions are accepted year round.

All stories submitted must have the authors name, contact information and word count on each page. We prefer stories in Microsoft Word or Open Office format.

If your story is accepted for publication you will be contacted and sent a contract. You will be required to sign and return the contract to be paid.

Here is a quick overview of the contract terms. If you do not accept any of these terms then there is no reason to send us your story.

You will receive an advance on royalties of $50. We publish in paperback and digital format at the same time. Each of the authors receive .20 per paperback and digital book sold at retail. Authors may buy paperback copies for 60% off suggested retail (No royalties are paid on author purchases). The volumes will not go out of print and you will earn royalties as long as they sell. Royalties are paid quarterly after you earn out your advance and your royalty balance reaches a minimum of $20. You give Science Fiction Press the right to publish your story in paperback and digital format. You maintain your copyright on your story and may do anything you wish to do with it in the future as long as it does not infringe on our right to continue selling the story as part of the collection it was originally published in.

Submissions should be submitted via email

or via regular mail to PO Box 10 Middleport, OH 45760 (If you submit via mail you must send a CD with your story on it.)
